Proverbs 1:7
[7] The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Knowledge here refers to revelation knowledge of GOD and of the things of GOD, and not secular human knowledge.

I used to know a very brilliant professor who was an atheist, full of scientific knowledge but completely ignorant of spiritual things.

Our disposition towards GOD determines how much we know HIM.

To fear GOD is not to be afraid of GOD, but to reverence HIM. To have nothing but great Honour, respect, and adoration for GOD. To be in awe of HIM and to want to please HIM all the days of our lives.

It’s what drives us to prayer and the study of the word, to worship and the doing of HIS work.
To want to obey HIM and do HIS will.

The fear of the LORD is a heart posture that opens us up to the deep things of GOD.

It’s the only way to walk with GOD and to have GOD walk with you.

And you can be more intentional about this every day of your life.

Take 10m to communicate your awe of GOD. Say LORD I reverence you with all my heart and I honour you with all my life.

Let the fear of the LORD take a hold of you and you will see depths of revelation knowledge will open up to you more than ever before.

TPT We cross the threshold of true knowledge when we live in obedient devotion to God. Stubborn know-it-alls will never stop to do this, for they scorn true wisdom and knowledge.

ERV Knowledge begins with fear and respect for the Lord, but stubborn fools hate wisdom and refuse to learn.

MSG Start with God—the first step in learning is bowing down to God; only fools thumb their noses at such wisdom and learning.
